What happened to my avatar thingy??? My dad used to call them "the mucky Dukes" Didn't they mainly recruit fromt the Halifax area? Yes, I think so, but obviously not exclusively. As previously discussed on another thread, my ggrandad had previously been in the York & Lancs and the KOYLIs. Got about a bit!

Duke of Wellies barracks are in Halifax and they have TA attached at barracks in Huddersfield. But back to Leeds, Barrack Road named because of the Barracks thereon, home of the Yorkshire Hussars? As in the huge pub on Eastgate. I was told that the old houses on Woolman Street in City Centre off York Street were originally barracks. They're gone now of course but can anyone tell me if that was the case? They used to stand just beside the railway viaduct between it and Marsh Lane.

The fish man that used to come to the White Hart at Beeston on a weekend was quite a character, I remember one time he came in and one of the young lads shouted to him have you any crabs on yea cock, I can't remember his reply but I know it had the pub in uproar and the lad who said it was put in his place

Cheers Brandy. I last looked at my p'bucket account months ago. I don't remember my ID or password on it, and besides, I have a new e-mail address since then. Also, I have no luck getting into my Flickr account for the same reason. They've sent me a reminder of my password etc, but to the old (non-existant) e-mail address! si i dont know whats going on with it now mate??It just appeared then dissapered again lol?? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????PS I apologise for hijacking this thread! Back to whelks! Did the blokes selling seafood in pubs dissapear at the same time as those little sandwich vans that used to ply their trade around various factories? I think there was some sort of new food hygiene legislation (early 90s?) that finished them off.
