CARN = County Archive Research Network. Basically another form of library ticket but one which works anywhere in the country [if that particular archive is a member of the scheme. If they’re not, you don’t need the ticket].Most places where they are members of the scheme say that it is to “provide security for documents” what is unsaid is “security from fools researching their family history who think it would be good to rip pages from things to save the 25p cost of having it copied”Some places require you to have the CARN ticket before you turn up and won’t issue one to you then let you use the archive on the same day. I had to go to Stevenage to get the ticket [nowhere in London does them] to be able to go to Oldham to use the archive [where they don’t issue and let you read on the same day]. Madness! Also, be careful at Sheepscar, they're liable to close at the drop of a hat. If you decide to go, phone well in advance.http://www.archives.wyjs.org.uk/index.a ... blocl.html

P.s the old bridge over the beck that led to Buslingthorpe Vale still survives these days. It's fenced off and heavily overgrown on top. The path is so overgrown it isn't navigable these days! The old Buslingthorpe Vale bridge is the second stone bridge on this shot herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/433537 ... 055853723/

The old street sign for Buslingthorpe Vale still survives on this old house herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/4161293074/The small bit of blocked road you can see is the only trace of Buslingthorpe Vale today.

The terraces on the right are 1-3 Buslingthorpe Vale, the building still standing in your photo is perhaps the one between them and the chimney, with the wide chimney stack?http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 19705Again here is 1-3 Buslingthorpe Vale , the surviving building being the white one just seen on the right? It says a 'second' way into the Vale. One of the comments suggests it's possibly a lost pub.http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 6_19063967

Same map as before, just moved right a bit. The building I’ve marked is the one I believe to be the Spring Hill Tavern [Working it out from a couple of directories]. If anybody knows any different....

Aha! I have searched the internet and found this piece of information:"Secondly, there was a pub called The Springhill Tavern situated at 137 Buslingthorpe Lane. There does not appear to be any pictures on Leodis but there is a reference to it. My grandmother lived in Scott Hall Drive and I used to walk past the pub, from Woodhouse, when visiting her with my parents in the 1950's. I do remember it closing down and then becoming business premises but I am not aware whether or not it is still standing (I doubt it)."Posted by one Iansmithofotley of a website called Secret Leeds. If Ian was going from Woodhouse up Bus Lane he would have to pass it before the Buslingthorpe Vale/Stonegate area and the big factory wall on the right. It doesn't appear on leodis because it wasn't scheduled for demolition and still exists.
