I don't advocate the use of smack coke etc by any means but in My callow youth days I was always aware that the most dangerous part of the joint I was rolling was the 3 or 4 Benson and hedges included in it's manufacture!!

I stopped smoking a year last Sept.because my wife had retired and we just could not afford for me to smoke anymore! I had smoked since I was 15 and was 66 when I packed in. I found it fairly easy this time,I don't know why! I have tried 3 times before and failed.I would urge anyone to give up the evil weed because, in May of this year I was diagnosed with lung cancer. It was a shock.I had the top hallf of my left lung removed in August and I now feel great apart from being a bit breathless when going upstairs or uphill.I'm just glad that it was caught in time.Iwas only in hospital for 4days after the op which was done in The Bexley Wing at St. james.Incidently it was my first time ever in hospital but I am grateful that I was able to have an operation that saved my life.God Bless the NHS

It delivers a buzz to the brain in seven seconds flat. I've even known people to be hospitalised with smoking illnesses, they've been warned to give up smoking or die within months, believe it or not they can't stop the smoking and choose the coffin to the quit!      Best of luck.I last smoked on 22-03-1991. It took me 20 years of trying before I finally kicked the habit. I've always believed that nicotine is extremly addictive, and your link more or less proves it.I'd had a bowel cancer scare (me being a hypochondriac really) but several things in my life had gone badly wrong at that time and the smoking was getting out of hand so I decided to have another go.When I gave up there were no patches or gum. There was something called Nicobravin, which didn't contain any nicotine, so wasn't very effective. I got through the first day somehow, even srabbling in the rubbish bin to see if I could reassemble the ciggies I'd screwed up the night before, but I couldn't. After that it eased a little and I told myself that if I started again I'd have to go through that first day again. That and Wrigleys' gum, Trebor extra strong mints, and a couple of pints every evening cured me. After three months I was able to knock the gum and mints on the head, and then revert to my normal drinking pattern of only at weekends. As for the pictures on tobacco products, I'm all for them. Not only will smoking take your health away, it will also take your looks, and if you're a woman smoker perhaps this will carry more weight, as young people tend to think they're immortal

There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

People knock "the book" but I read Alan Carrs stop smoking book and i did!!!! It uses will power, but also educates you properly on the effects and causes of Nicotine. Once you know the symptoms of stopping smoking you can deal with them the best way, ie, ignore em. As Alan said i nthe book "for anyone who stops smoking by will power alone (without the added education of symptoms of stopping), then massive well done. However, several months or even years down the line they may not know why the feel a craving, or how to combat it and could possible end up smoikng again."So I would advocate anyone who wants to stop, and REALLY wants to stop, read the book, even if it don't work, it really is a small price to pay. Keep with it Phil, it will get easier. Well done fortha last several weeks.

In those days you could still smoke on aircraft. The book said imagine you're travelling abroad, you're at the airport about to board, and in an area where smoking is prohibited. You board the plane and there is a delay, after an hour the plane takes off, and the no smoking light is switched off. You immediately get out your cigarettes and light up. Do you really want your life to be controlled by a light? When I was tempted I used to think about that too.
