I find a "Beware of the dog" sign on the gate works wonders

Did that lad actually sing a carol, though?
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, moves on; nor all thy Piety nor all thy Wit can call it back to cancel half a Line, nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

I had one lad knock on the door tonight - he sang some of 'Jingle Bells' and didn't get all the words right.

There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

As a kid in Bramley we used to give value for money. 2 or 3 carols and 2 or 3 verses from each singing for about 5 min outside each house. People were often very generous i can remember being given as much as half a crown when that really was a lot of money. As for today's kids they probably never get to sing carols properly in school or sunday school. "Sling your hook"- wonderful phrase I haven't heard used for years. I wonder how a naval expression came to be widely used in West Yorks?
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!
