What did/do you need a licence for?

I think a lot of this licensing is done in a differant way these days, you have to register with some database or other - not a licence as such, but it means that without being registered, you can't do whatever it is the scheme covers.So if you want to drive the school minibus on a regular basis, you have to be cleared on the CRB database and also the new data base whose name escapes me for the moment.I know it covers a lot more people than the CRB does.You need a licence to be a medical practitioner or a vet.There is some new registration scheme for gas installation, used to be CORGI registration but it has recently changed.There are plenty of practitioner schemes around, from electricians, working in construction, fork truck drivers.

"Certainly if you pass your car test now you don't get that entitlement anymore."An old lass (now long gone) i used to work with who was in the wrens during ww2 claimed that she had MTB on her license, for Motor Torpedo Boat.No idea if that actually was the case, or if it was an old story that had ripened with age

I've seen fish big enough to be salmon leaping the race at Knostrop Lock, so some of those will enter the canalised stretches on the approach to Leeds. I suppose it's possible having reached the city, some could be dimwitted enough to turn left when the Leeds & Liverpool entrance lock is open and end up in the canal.

Legislation came into effect on 12th October this year.

Water bailiffs are also rarer than salmon in the canal!
