STRANGE - LOST JOBS

When I was a kid, and this is only in the 60’s, a very grand, very snotty, old lass who lived in our street had her father living with her – he must have been older than God. He’d been a Cut Nail Maker – and was as down to earth as his daughter was stuck-up!His emphasis was always on the “Cut” part. Anybody know what’s the difference between a nail maker and a cut nail maker?

Nail maker is a high priced firm for nail making and a cut nail maker is the cheaper version a bit like harvey nichols to primarnie? same thing just in different priced shops, havent a clue really but thought it sounds good !

Cut nails are made using a machine rather than being hand forged.

Fettlers and tacklers. I think these were in textiles. Anyone on here familiar with a Stanley Holloway style monologue which went something along the lines of "Now Albert wa' nobbut a tackler..........."?
