This pub was my Dad's local in the 50's and 60's.He spent some money in this place! It was still a good pub in the 70s through to the mid 90s, with excellent Tetley's and ham and mustard sandwiches.Shutters were still on yesterday.     Don't forget the Hot n kicking chicken ;-)

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Been closed a couple of years now. There was a rumour that Wetherspoon's were supposed to be starting work on it this month. No sign yet.

I thought Wetherspoons were supposed to be taking over the Bowling Green? Or is it both now? Or neither? :~

No sign yet.     Si - I think Wetherspoons are going to start work in October, as it said so in the "Wharfedale" a few weeks ago so surely that would be from an official source ?? I think its been shut, believe it or not, for at least three years or possibly four can you believe. The little "Planning Permission" notice round the side street lamp post said the closing date for objections was October 2006 or may have been 2005. Time flies at a terrifying rate doesn't it ??
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

It is the legendary "The Bowling Green" that Wetherspoons are doing up.Work due to start for opening next month.Incidentally whilst standing outside "The Woolpack" waiting for a friend ,a young couple were taking careful note of the pub, telephone number of the agents and walked past me dicussing staffing,so fingers crossed!

Can anyone actually make a decent living running a pub nowdays? I suspect not and whilst I have no problem with Wetherspoons and whatt hey do, if this becomes the only option it will be pretty boring and pointless to go on a pub crawl.Imagine Whitelocks as a Wetherspoons?
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.
