There's also (Frank?) Coopers Ford at Oulton.Didn't they previously have a garage at Bramham Crossroads??(whilst it was a cross-roads), quite literally where the A1(northbound) to A64 (eastbound) flyover is now? Does anyone know of any pics of it as a cross-roads??(I have a mid 60's OS map showing it as such) Trojan wrote: In Knutsford in leafy Cheshire - not a big place. There's a Rolls Royce Dealer, a Landrover Dealer, a BMW dealer and a Mercedes dealer. I wonder why? We drove through Knutford & Wilmslow not too long ago, on an elongated route after a trip to Chester & the WirralThe only dealers I saw in Knutsford were Aston-Martin & Rolls-Royce, with Bentley in Wilmslow!!!!!!!!(or was it the other way around??)

Most interesting ggbix - I remember all that time very well and with affection - and I believe Hartley Motors at Crossgates became Lada dealers for a short time before the imports from Russia (with a huge distribution centre at Carnaby Airfield near Brid for access to Hull Docks) ceased.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

The car dealers mentioned in Horsforth, now a chinese takeaway, still has workshops underneath. I worked here a few years back, the trader went bust not long after, but I beleive they are still functioning repair premises. It was quite distracting about 4pm, when the Chinese would start cooking up the evenings food, as the smell wafted into the work shop.....

Speaking of Crossgates I seem to remember going into a retail "satellite" dealership of Rover at a launch party of 800 series circa 86/87. It was in at the back of the Peugeot dealers at the the side of the Arndale centre ? May have been affiliated to the Fletchers crowd.

I'm fairly sure that Fletchers were also Rover dealers for a time, in addition to their usual Citroen / Peugeot marques.Wasn't the Rover showroom set up in the 'house' over the road that is now an estate agents?

Ah..Ok Church Lane..It was a small stand alone unit. Speaking of Fletchers, Peter Fletcher used to occasionly visit his dealership on Meadow Rd by Helicopter which he flew himself. Rumour has it that during a late July one year when the compound was more crowded than usual due to the new regs coming up,he managed to pebbledash alot of the stock upon arrival resulting in some rather hurried paint jobs and delayed deliveries.

Yes Fletchers main showroom was across the road and they branched out over the way - that building seems to have had quite a varied life, not sure what it is at the moment.Chanced to drop into Crossgates yesterday around 4.30pm - it was nie on deserted and closed!!

There was a very expensive car dealership at the side/back of Lewis's on the Headrow. I can't remember if it was an Appleyard's or Rippon Bros., maybe neither. Whoever it was they sold some very top of the range autos - Rolls, Bentleys etc.. Anyone remember it?
Daft I call it - What's for tea Ma?
