Timble Bridge ( as it was known as Timble Beck at this point) used to cross the beck connecting The Calls to East Street and onwards onto Temple Newsam etc. Going back along the beck there were of course a number of mills that took advantage of the water supply provided by the beck, the name mill garth of course still in use.

Indeed. When was St Peter's Street built, the 1906 maps show a waren of foundries and mills. Here's the street view of the slab, bang over the beck and the hatch is where the little bush is:http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sourc ... 5,,0,16.51
