Hence a large number reputedly being rented by "ladies" of the night and drug dealers.

I'm pretty sure that a few hundred quid a month for a flat in one of the half empty blocks is not beyond your above average brass or drug dealer.I suppose the natural result would be these floors become derelict, and it seems so pointless,

Must be empty I guess. If it's the case that some pubs upper floors are in use what are they used for? Accomodation? Storage?     It's now a "Discovery Inn" which is part of the Comfort chain (which you are quite right in saying it was previously branded as). Perhaps they just don't clean the windows?http://www.comfortinnleeds.co.uk/If I remember correctly, the entrance was moved from Boar Lane to Bishopgate Street when Bar Censsa opened.

It's painted on. There are loads of these unoccupied top floors on Briggate. H Samuels for example, it's like a castle-turret type affair. Always reminds me of the Rapunzel story as it looks like something from a fairy tale! (i'm sure it;s the H Samuel building, if not it's the on opposite) This one Lee? Na, I got it wrong. The other side where Carphone Warehouse is. Why would anyone build what seems to be such a pointless tower! The carphone warehouse tower used to have a spire on the top of it.http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... _20608157I also remember a disney-esque tower on H Samuel but I can't find any evidence of this. It does have tudor dormer windows though.http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 0_67335147

I wonder why they took the spire off? I would LOVE to know what the story is with that wee tower, I was looking at it again only the other day. There are loads of upper floor windows that fascinate me, there's one on the old Gilbert Scott building at LGI that I cannot for the life of me work out how you get to!
