Leeds lost locos

This is a Fowler steam loco originally used on the cane railways in Northern Queensland. It is now used to haul tourists on a short stretch of narrow guage line at Port Douglas.

I've just been to Levens Hall to see the topiary gardens and they've got a Leeds made traction engine in a shed (sorry no photo)

And if you look at the buidlings opposite Costco you'll see more evidence of Leeds great engineering past.I've got a couple of pics somewhere of some more Fowler traction engines, taken a couple fo years ago at Nostell Priory. I'll dig them out and post them on the Secret Leeds group on flickr when I have a minutes. When kaiser Bill called us a nation of shopkeepers we were the workshop of the world. Here's one that made it all the way to Lakes Entrance in Victoria Australia!We came across it in 1972 just after we emigrated from Leeds so we were all very proud to be standing next to it.... edit - well it looks as though Apple users are stuffed when it comes to uploading images here - it didn't work in Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox - no go either....

One more try.... Had to use Firefox in Windows XP in a Parallels WindowSheesh!Was it worth it? Perhaps not

My Dad worked for Fowlers and I once owned a few sizable high quality hard backed books featuring their engines. If only youth had the foresite of value (even if not financially) as we have in older hindsight.... Long gone I'm afraid. Amazing where they turn up, even now.Posting Pics:Firefox is usually a non starter (well except for the odd favoured contributor ) so you did quite well getting this up - the rest of us have to use Explorer.
