On the map, the section that runs parallel to the river to the right of the fulling mill/Leeds Bridge (towards the Parish Church) appears in a number of pictures on Leodis in the process of being culverted, I remember looking through these some time ago after seeing the channel on historic maps at work. I wonder if there's still an old bridge or void beneath the road approaching Leeds Bridge, or if this was backfilled when the channel was filled?

http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 8747Here's the end but from the 1847 map I can't make out where the goit goes after this.

Had a peer over the edge of the bridge today. There's two stone arches on the east side of Leeds bridge. One from under the row of buildings (starting with the Bridge pub and ending with the riveresque cafe i think), the other from under Pitfall lane, the back street behind these buildings. Wonder if tey were the goit outfalls.Going back toward the railway station by the Asda offices you can see some infill brick work on the north bank which could be the old goit entering the river. No sign of an outfall from the drain on the map. Possibly below the water line.I noticed that the Neville Street underpass is getting a wash and brush up. They've scraped some of the render off and revealed the white ceramic faced bricks. The artists impression indicates some new cladding will be going over them.

The other goit used to run from bishopgate this way along the course of this road, the surface water drain below stillfollows its course. The area was redeveloped about 1902,mainly in brick, are those stone walls original?
