Strange how that Hillard's bag was instantly recognisable, must be 30 years since they closed. And were there so few cars around?

The second one is probably the best of the three, I think - Paddy Considine is the main character, and he doesn't try so hard, so isn't so trying! There are lots of aspects that don't exactly match the books, but to be honest I was quite glad that the films were less complicated and (very slightly) lighter on the violence. Still better than a lot of what passes for 'drama' on TV, but probably not doing the local tourist industry too many favours - I can't see people coming to Leeds for 'the Red Riding experience' like they go to Goathland for the Heartbeat one! I always wanted to do a Get Carter walking tour in Newcastle, so we can only give it time...

Better than most fare but that says more about the dire [edited for content] on TV nowdays. Our cable box has been bust for 5 days and I haven't missed it. I think they've concatenated '1974' and '1977' a little too much there. I can't remember what happened to Dawson and when in the books now. I do get a horrible feeling that an important plot point from the first two books is being underplayed in the films.

There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

After all the hype I thought I would watch it because of the local interest. I also managed about 45 mins before giving it up as a bad job! To sum it up with a good old yorkshire phrase it was a load of tripe.

One thing that got me was a shot of the Leeds skyline which looked like it was taken from a back road somewhere to the south. It was identifiably Leeds but looked like it must have done at the time, with none of the newer buildings obvious.

I enjoyed it, it was mostly free of the adolescent self-indulgent *%&%^ that mires the books. Shame the editor of the YEP was a Manc yet this was never commented on. Overall the accents weren't anything like as bad as I'd feared though. Can anybody identify any of the locations? Where are the funny little houses "Paula" lived in? What about "Shangri-La", was that Mombasa or whatever it's called, out near Thorpe Audlin or somewhere, does anybody recognise where the exterior shots of "The Karachi Club" were done?We thought the skyline shot was probably a contemporary one that took an age to alter in post-production?
