Oh dear. The bastard offspring of Life on Mars and The Sweeney. A right good book ruined. If it had been any poorer, it could have sold the Big Issue. I turned it off after 40 mins and before Sean Bean arrived on the scene. He’s trying to be the next Brian Glover / Paul Lutey. Unfortunately, he went to the Harry Gration school of acting.

Bad acting,Bad costumes and Bad sideburns.......................what a load of old ocks-boll, ive been looking forward to this pile of garbage for weeks, what a let down! They think they can liven it up by throwing a few sex scenes in? what a waste of a good 45 minutes of my life.ps/just thought id add,i turned over for fives minutes and when i tuned back in you guessed it another third rate sex scene. What do we think of it so far......................................RUBBISH!

I think the first one was the weakest, for all the reasons you've mentioned - there were bits where we were just waiting for some character from The League of Gentlemen to appear. The second one is probably the best of the three, I think - Paddy Considine is the main character, and he doesn't try so hard, so isn't so trying! There are lots of aspects that don't exactly match the books, but to be honest I was quite glad that the films were less complicated and (very slightly) lighter on the violence. Still better than a lot of what passes for 'drama' on TV, but probably not doing the local tourist industry too many favours - I can't see people coming to Leeds for 'the Red Riding experience' like they go to Goathland for the Heartbeat one!

Hang on, that wan't 45 mins, that was the 1970's.I liked it but the plot was predictable and lacked subtlety, even before Mr Bean arrived you knew he did it. Better than most fare but that says more about the dire [edited for content] on TV nowdays. Our cable box has been bust for 5 days and I haven't missed it.

It certainly left me feeling like I had watched something, which is more than can be said for the usual [edited for content] on tele. Bloody hell WG, that is right on the lines of what I was just gonna write. Weird!!
