I had completely forgotten about these fountains ( or taps) until you jogged my memory but I now have a very vague recollection of drinking from them. Public drinking fountains in parks were more important in those days when nobody would dream of buying or carrying bottled water around with them all the time and dehydration was something you got crossing the Sahara not playing cricket on Harehills park. Now that everybody under 50 can't jog for half a mile without swigging overpriced water from a plastic bottle, which then becomes a disposal problem, I can understand why the local authorities no longer maintain the public drinking fountains. But I fail to see why the councils have done away with the public loos the Victorians and Edwardians thoughtfully provided.
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

Well i think that the BMP is a political party which supports the baking trade, especially the savoury snack reatilers, itsBuy More pies.Gumf is a spilnter group, formed from the far left contingent, who have a more protectionist outlook and wish to discredit one other particular range of meat filled pastry snacksGinsters Ugly M****** F******
