Can anyone remember the building that is now the Leeds Light? I remember as a kid when I used to wait for the bus on the Headrow that there was a "tat" shop somewhere around where Ark(?) is now. I can't remember what the other shops were on the front or what the rest of the building was used for. I am 25 now so I won't remember it in its hey day but just before it became The Light... even then I don't remember much of it!

I think you'll find that the 'Tat' shop was called 'The Stop and Shop'!Very cheap but mainly rubbish! Brollies for 99p which when you pressed the release button, didn't just spring open but the whole'cover and ribs shot 6ft in the air!We also bought a reel to reel tape recorder for about £3.for our14 yr old son's birthdayIt was fine for speech but if he tried to record owt on TOTPIt sounded like an Iraqi revivalist Meeting! No cinc at all!We learn the hard way and son not best pleased!Apart from that shop. I seem to remember that the upper floorsof that building were a solicitors and a medical inspectionsuite for people on long term sick (to check for skivers!)Hope that helps,Rob? I find it hard to recall what was therebefore The LightArry

Yes the Perm - entrance on the bottom corner for the optomistic wanting a mortgage, their offices upstairs and in the rest of the building. Impression is that its style and decor hadn't moved on much from whe it was formed.Funny to think that the main concourse was an ordiary street before the change, big archway joining it to the Headrow at the bottom were the doors now are.
