I lived in a house in Newport View, Headingley for around 20 years. The back garden was large, having a lawn then a built up rockery and then sloping muddy area and finally a lower down level at the bottom next to our garage (which was on the lower level street of Headingley Mount. We used to play in the muddy area digging for relics etc - which we never found, but I did find a strange hole, which looked manmade and had a bit of corrugated iron next to it in the rockery. My parents sold the house eventually, my friend bought it and when landscaping the garden. found an old hidden air raid shelter uner the rockery. I wish I'd have seen it before he tore it down. As a child I would have loved to have known it was there.

Sounds like the remains of an Anderson Shelter.
