The one you've missed is that for a long time West Yorkshire RCC and United shared the 36, and that you'd get the odd UAS RE appearing at Vicar Lane bus station.

Welcome Riponian.Yes indeed, and as far as I remember there was only one United "car" running into Leeds, with all the others being West Yorkshire. Apart from my general interest I know this only too well, as I once had to two full days census at Crescent Gardens Moortown when the service was quarter hourly. During the reign of the splendid REs (for me the very finest of the first generation of rear engined single deckers) the United vehicle was invariably 6187 (THN687F). Another fascinating operation on service 36 (Mondays to Fridays) was the duplicate from Leeds at 5.15pm. This was worked by the East Yorkshire bus from Bridlington - during layover time - with a West Yorkshire conductor. A home made label was placed in the windscreen with the destination "ALWOODLEY + ROADS." I'm sure this little "extra treat" will have gone down like the proverbial lead balloon with the EYMS drivers !! Incidentally there were of course many more non LCT operators running into Leeds.

Yes Trojan EYMS were indeed a separate concern at the time - at least not part of the "Tilling" Bristol using group. The crux of this little gem is though that WYRCC and EYMS jointly operated services 44/45/46 to Bridlington and Hull and therefore the Alwoodley Cross Roads trip was no doubt arranged in a friendly manner on the principle of "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours."Incidentally just after the War, East Yorkshire took the brave and defiant step of having full length slogans on the sides of some vehicles, reading "UN-NATIONALISED - UNIMPAIRED" or "THIS IS NOT A NATIONALISED BUS."

I have however once travelled on a really foreign bus from Wetherby to Leeds in the 70's. An Eastern Scottish RELH/Alexander coach broke down so they borrowed a RE from Wetherby. The fitters called and fixed the problem, and then it ran a trip to Leeds on the 739 before it went home again.

Having expressed surprise, I believe TransDev still run the 36 to Ripon throughout on a frequent headway.I'm like you Blakey, pleased to be back on the site. Are you likely to be at Pudsey Civic Centre tomorrow?

I'm hoping to spend some time there, but one or two complications have set in. But hope to have a chat, all being well.

Here's a photo of the unique EYMS double deckers which presumably operated this unusual service
