No they were built specially for the St Aidens job. One was a NCK built by NCK Ransome Rapier of Sheffield and Ipswich. The other I believe was a Bucyrus built by RB of Lincoln. The St Aidens site was run by Miller Mining no Parkinson.

First to Pontypridd, then Cannock and finally to Allerton Bywater where it remains. It's a really beautiful beast and I hope it stays put and is looked after as a mining monument.

Just found this Pathe video of open cast mining at Temple Newsam.http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=55743
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

Interesting reference to old pit workings found near Woodhouse and 2000 tons of coal extracted during construction of the inner Ring rd.
