Hi Pashy.I knew your old man well. Who didn't round that time? He left me with a bunch of drawings to finish off for a kids' book, when he went off somewhere. Did you know that he was once in a toy shop (don't ask!) opposite the bus station with Ed o'D, when he spotted a huge pyramid painstakingly constructed with the latest Triang toy tipper trucks? He decide to 'faint' into it. And whilst the wreckage was being cleared, he managed to grab a plastic Groucho Marx glasses-and-nose mask and put it on for the benefit of the unamused store manager before scarpering.Yes I remember Daves Haigh and Holdsworth. And also Ron Walters. I've got faded photographs of them with Ned Websdale and Jim Fuller at Jim Iron's house - though not the one off Stanningley Road which was fondly and justifiably referred to as The Eagles' Nest. My memory isn't everything I used to think it was, so these faces and names are coming to me from darkened rooms with Bunk Johnson in the speakers. I think there was once an issue with Ron Walters and my wife's suede jacket, but I could be wrong. It was at a do at Dave Lewis's place. Dave was a good mate who played trombone - and double bass (though not at the same time) when we were both with Boland's White Eagles on Sat. nights at the Peel. Also just found a photo of Boland sitting in at The Queen's with a singer called Jo Cheeseman. The Fanshaw rings a distant bell - it wasn't the WM's Club in Wakefield was it?Homer.

Hi Homer,Thanks for another story about the old man.He was a bit of a handfull. You should ask Ed O'D about when they Banzaied the traffic lights and got arrested for drunken driving. My resonsible Father was taken to the Leeds Town Hall lock up,but he made his bid for freedom by mounting a white lion and tried to ride away.Ed as a witness next day in court put on strong Irish accent and spoke utter gibberish at high speed. The Beak couldn't shut him up and let the old man off with caution.Other part time residents at the Eagle's Nest ( not counting Hitler ) were Rory Noon, Red McCreevy, Jim Ogilvy, Dennis Burke , Jack Toohey, Dick Wright.Ron and Mo Walters came to Australia about ten years after we did and are still here.Jim & Pat Fuller also came in 1968 but Jim missed his Tetleys and returned to Leeds. We watched him play a few times at the Swanbourne jazz sessions and made all the other Aussie players look like rank stank amateurs.I am sorry to hear about Martin Boland's illness, he and Liz were good friends of my folks.Other players and hangers on were Dave Paley ( trombone ) Jack Payne ( bass ) Boots Pedley,Tim Onions and various tarts.I too have a photo of singer Jo ( Fox's squeeze )plus many more of the ravers. Can I post jpg or tif or multifile pdfs as an attachment to a message ?Watch this space.CheersAndy
