there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

The Golden Cock/Precinct on Kirkgate - subject of its own separate thread. The Blue Faience tiles are unusual - Green or Brown seem much more in evidence on old pub fronts.I wonder if there's anything hidden under the Superdrug sign? There are some VERY VERY VERY faint marks/shadows where signage was once affixed between the first and second floor windows. You can't see them on the picture really but with the naked eye you can make them out if you know what you're looking for. they say 'IND,COOPE' to the left, and 'ALLSOPP'S' to the right.

Its shown as such on old maps - so either this is the old Bay Horse or its a newer building built on the old site - and it doesn't look very new.Unfortunately I was unable to get as close a look as I would have liked as there is a locked gate across the yard.(i wonder if this is legal - shouldn't it be a public right of way??)The lights are electric incidentally.

The much-missed Duchess of York formerly the Robin Hood ( and if memory serves me right briefly called 'the Pub with No Name' in between). venue for many musical legends - now a clothes shop.

I have to admit I dont remember this - but I've been told,on good authority that this building (that used to be Thornton's chocolate shop) on Commercial Street used to be a pub called the 'Mitre'You can see where a sign might have been fixed. It was a 'gay bar' apparently!
