Great. Thanks, Tasa. There you go, Graham. That's final proof of the whereabouts of the Perseverance Iron Foundry. It took up the whole area of the Spring & Axle Works, Corporation Yard and Screw Manufactory, as marked on the 1908 map. A big place, but I doubt if much of the original buildings exist. Might go and have a nosey. The rail branch is long gone, too. Interestingly, the only two sites this line served were the Perseverance Iron Foundry north of the river, and the Albion Works (Greenwood and Batley's) south of the river and canal. What happened to the Cardigan Arms bowling green?!!!

Cardigan Place was still shown on the OS 2500 maps for 1954 & 1966, although interestingly enough it had vanished on the maps between 1908 & 1933. Leeds still had it listed as a street name in 1955. I seemed to remember the old Fosters works being where the iron works were, a group I played in used to have one of the units that it was converted into in the early 80's for rehearsal rooms - we were too loud for anywhere else, the place used to stink to high heaven - the conversion was still ongoing and a lot of the old place was still there. I was sure it was opposite the radio station but perhaps my memory is playing tricks.

There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.
