Tyke bhoy was in threre with his "good authority" that Brunswick terrace was up for Imminent sale. This site is far preferable to Elland Road, but i think not as good as Sweet Street.Andrew Carter said that it was still open to change so hes got a get out of jail card there. The other two options were proposed by private groups,Andrew Carter said they were too expensive, hence the choice of the council to go it alone.I hope this does not mean a compromise on the quality of the so called "State of the Art" arena which i believe it has to be to be competitive.Looking forward to seeing the plans and aspirations for the site,i hope that the real problem of transport infrastructure for the area is addressed. The council should take a trip to Liverpool and see what they have there, infact id drive some of em myself to see how good the st up is.,its smaller than Sheffield and of course the MEN,but its now my favourite arena without a doubt, and ive been to a few now.

Interesting you mention the real problem of transport infrastructure - I see Cnlr Carter states that the area has 'Great transport links'.I thought they'd built the Merrion Centre over the bus station that was up there quite some years ago!! Quite an horrendous part of town to get to/through at the best of times I find.

Chris mate you really need to think about going into politics! You would have this once proud city of ours back up and running like clockwork in no timeAnd we'd probably have three decent arena's to boot.SCREW OBAMA AND VOTE CNOSNI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It all depends on the footprint they are considering. However an exit road to the far east of the site would on crossing claypit lane have access to the inner ring road westbound and be suitable for eastbound traffic on claypit lane which could then be directed north on meanwood, scott hall and Harrogate/Chapeltown roads and south/east towards the motorways via regent street and/or the loop/lirr6+7.The above is conjecture rather than the good authority the previous "guess" was made on.

The trouble is is that the IRR is not going to be able to be "adjusted"very easily. Its below ground level from Vicar Lane to westgate.I fear that this choice, though better than Elland Road, may be the wrong one.Id like to be proved wrong, and id like to see the supporting evidence to back up this choice of location, but i feel its a bit of a fudge somehow. Its a city centre location, but without the common sense approach.Personally i believe this to be (the arena)a once in lifetime decision that can either be fanatstically successful or downright [edited for content].This arena could seriously boost this city, not just for the benefit of those who use it but for those who dont because of its potential to create jobs and businesses that will benefit the local economy and therefore all Loiners.Bloody ell,id love to see the mechanics behind this.anyone else interested?

I wasn't suggesting any changes to LIRR just a new juction on claypit lane with traffic lights that are only in use when the arena is.http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en ... t=h&z=18If the exit road from the arena ran adjacent to, although admittedly above, the Woodhouse Lane off slip of LIRR westbound then a right turn could cut through the central reservation of claypit lane approximately where the top of the 3 big trees is on the image. This could then use the existing westbound on slip of LIRR for Westbound traffic. The majority (or all) remaining traffic could then be directed down to Sheepscar with Northbound traffic having the options of Meanwood, Scott Hall, Harrogate and Roundhay roads. With east and south bound traffic directed towards Regent Street and either the A64 or the loop to pick up the M621.At the times a full arena would be decanting (Sunday afternoon for sports/family events, 9.00pm for family events or 11.00pm for concerts) there would not be much traffic on claypit lane to be disrupted.

The footprint is bigger than your proposed Sovereign Street footprint and becomes roughly comparable if you include the Qpark multi storey which houses Bibis Criterion. Don't forget the boundaries areL ovell Park Road to LIRR, LIRR, Claypit Lane to Yorkshire Bank, then down Brunswick Terrace to what was the Londoner (now opal 3). If a multi storey was attached to the arena as at MEN it coould have parking. Both the bus station and the station are just over 10 minutes walk but a bus stop on a major route will be nearly 5 minutes walk.
