My sister is actually one of the people who run these censuses ,however their are two companies who do this locally, both have ofices in Ossett ,the one she works for and a rival which appears to be the one who did this census. They are usually hired by local councils, bus companies, government etc to carry out surveys and are private firms.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

I do know that a mate of mine works for a vehichle tracking company. He has it on reliable authority that we will eventually all have little boxes in our cars that will be part of the road pricing system tracking where we go and charging accordingly.Having said that I couldnt say that this census is part of this for definate

When I was a kid my dad used to tell me sewage was all compartmentalised and the sewage man knew exactly who had done what do to speak.

To add to the list of recent census pointsI have been stopped on both Selby Road (just before the railway bridge (inbound)) and Foundry Approach at the junction of Harehills LaneFrom previous comments (above) this would appear to be a comprehensive city wide survey.I wonder what Leeds City Council will do with the collated information?

I have nothing to add on the subject of Censuses (Censi?) but it is odd to note that 60081 was quized quite close to 50B.

They are out today on the A64 York Road inbound near the Old Red Lion (and the census takers cars were all illegally parked up near the pub, causing more congestion / disruption...) and on Barwick Road near the Church Lane junction. As has been said, you are legally required to stop if ordered to do so by the constabulary, but you are not obliged to co-operate with the nosey civil servant in the hi-viz who has held you up in a traffic jam for 30 minutes, to quiz where you may be going on a major aerterial route in the morning rush hour...

Yes, at one of the most dangerous parts of the A64 in the area, on the brow of a blind hill with the road changing from single to dual carriage way and vise-versa, cars trying to make what are very awkward and dangerous right turns at the best of times. A spot so bad, it has warranted the need for not one but three saftey cameras over a quarter mile stretch.Let's hope more thought goes into the interpretation of the results than the forethought which went into choosing this location.

Hmmph, the only purpose is to find out if road charging in Leeds is viable - they've committed to doing the studies some time ago.

I suspect that what ever we are told, that you are correct. One suggestion is to follow the regime operated elsewhere with one charge for crossing over the outer ring road and a second charge when traversing the inner ringroad. That could prove to be an expensive journey from the outer areas to go just accross the road to Tesco... or taking children to school.... or even a visit to the quacks for many!
