Does anyone know if this is called the "White"? My partner is an Armley Lass - who tells me she's never heard the 'White Lion' called that - but your theory does seem plausible - perhaps there were other pubs in the vicinity once - a Red Lion perhaps,(there's a Black Lion in Bramley of course )

I think this is the sign Phill D was talking about on page 4 of the 'signs of old leodis' thread. Molineaux, presumably, was a brewery . I believe the building that was the Bay Horse is still down the yard - its marked on old maps - I'll get a pic next time i'm in town

This was added about 8 or 9 years ago when the guildford was being refurbished and a friend of a friend made it out of plaster! ;-)As further proof if you walk past there is an identical figure at the other side of the building in its natural state!

It is only the last 5 - 10 years maximum that it stopped being the Guilford. Although it was moving more away from being a traditional pub towards being a "trendy bar" long before the name change. It was afaik, under it new guise of Oxygen, the first non-smoking pub in Leeds but I don't think it was particularly succesful because of it. In just under 50 days it is about to lose that "edge" so I think unless it has a very loyal customer base it might struggle to stay afloat because non smoking trendy wine bars in the vicinity will be a plenty (park row/the light).
