In the light of the opening of the new museum, can anyone remember the coal seam in the old museum in Park Row? I can remember going with the school (early '50s) and crawling on hands and knees around it. It was of course part of the exibition but to us kids it was great!

I have vague recollections of visiting the mining exhibition in the mid to late fifties with a school trip. My clearest flashback is of the guide saying that the light fitting eluminating the main roadway(tunnel) would withstand being hit by a pick. Strange what one remembers. Having worked down the pit since then, I cannot think why anyone would want to hit the light with a pick!!

Hi Johnny39 Ialso remember the coal seam in the old museum i think if i remember right i was pitch black when you first went in. Then they turned on the light at the far end they had placed a mirror so it looked like someone was comeing towards you it made me jump i can tell you.
