As you know Arry, I worked up belle vue rd for a while and the bank was still there then. Not been up there for a while so it might have succumbed to modernisation now?

Isn't there one on Tong Road at Copley Hill, as well?     It's actually the junction of Burley Road and Willow Road and it used to be a TSB.The Viva Cuba on Kirkstall Road was a Yorkshire Bank and next door the Sheesh Mahal was a Midland Bank.

Me mam made me put tuppence a week inwhich was paid in at school and entered in the bankbook! The YPB branch was at the corner of Westfield Road andWoodsley Rd. Can't recall if it's still there now? We used to take money to school to put in the YPB. My dad gave me 2/6 a week to save and then in the early sixties when it was about £70 and he wanted to buy a second hand car it was withdrawn and spent on the car!I've banked with Yorkshire all my adult life apart from a brief period between 1972 and 1982 when we banked with the Co-op. When the Morley Co-op closed in 1982, so did the cash office so we swapped back to the YPB.As for bank builings what had been the Leeds, Skyrack and Morley Trustee Savings Bank on Queen Street is now a wine bar. The Yorkshire Bank occupies premises that used to be Woollies!

There was one on Harehills Road on the corner near the Dock Green, on the junction with Stanley Road and Beckett Street just up from Jimmys. There was also one opposite the Fforde Green at the bottom of Easterly Road, too.And on Kirkgate (as has been mentioned) near the Post Office in a tiny triangular shaped building on the corner thats an amusement arcade now. Not to be confused with the existing branch further up Kirkgate. And of course the branch on Infirmary Street, where the original branch was (I think there is a plaque on the wall about it).

Yorkshire Bank had a spate of closing branches a few years ago. In addition to the ones on Dewsbury Road, Kirkstall Road ,Roundhay Road and Holbeck Lane that have already been mentioned there was a University branch just down from the Parkinson Building (possibly now a bar?) and one where Tong Road joins Wellington Road opposite the Crown (now offices - poss solicitors??). The Guiseley Branch has also closed recently. The one on Roundhay Road (opp. Fforde Grene) has reopened as a bank - an Indian bank called ICICI.

I cant find the pic on Leodis that shows it. Been looking for ages. All I got is the attaced. the Yorkshire is the red arrow and the blue is the Midland...P.S. - Chances of intrepid explorers having a nosey in the vicinity of the building and perhaps inside??;-)

I first remember seeing Yorkshire Penny Bank at its branch on corner of Lidget Green and Lowtown, Pudsey. Or was that National Provincial or Westminster? YPB was somewhere round there. Perhaps sundowner knows. Is there still a branch there?Once saw a film called "Value For Money" - at the Rialto Cinema, Rodley, since you ask - and what I remember was one character claiming to have a tidy sum "in't Yokksha' Penny".All banks are reducing their branches, as more people, myself included, use the internet. Very rarely need to go to a branch.
