In the 60s/70s, our family used to go to Tiberio's on Galloway Lane in Pudsey. It was owned by a bloke called Ivano, and had a huge menu (variety of dishes, not shear size.)A favourite meal would be canneloni followed by Chicken Cordon Bleu (chicken breast stuffed with ham and cheese and deep-fried in breadcrumbs - coronary on a plate) followed by Neapolitan ice-cream. I couldn't eat that much now.I think Tiberio's is still going. Anyone know for sure? Hi Si, Tiberios is still open on Galloway Lane,in there about 18 months ago. Lovely meals plenty of it and not bad prices.Remember Costas Steak House well and enjoyed some really good meals in there. Hi Si Tiberios did close for a time a few months ago it has now opened with new owners.Another Restaurant i remember is the Restaurant in the Park in Horsforth park now a chinese restaurant. Just to back track Tiberios has now got decking from the front to the pavement with seating seems to be doing well. When i pass i think im on my hols this does not fit in with the thread but i thought it might be of interest.

Does anyone have any memories or even photos of it or of the family who managed it in the 1960 to 1965 period? It was apparently a very popular venue for the 16 to 25 year old population and cinemagoers Hullo Toddie,Cant't remember owners exact names but they were part of the 4 Cousins Greek family that owned the coffee bar of that name at back of Woolies, plus I think Del Rio and that one on the Headrow above Leeds Perm. I think the owner was Costas but wouldn't swear to it as it's 43 years since I went in. I can still see his face now tho, stood behind the bar in his maroon jacket. As I remember, the restaurant was upstairs and the coffee bar downstairs. I do remember the place getting trashed by a firm of roofers called Brady Bros after Brady's lad had been chucked out non too gently!I used to be a regular with girlfriend in 65 before pubs kicked in.Can yo remember what was the name of the coffee bar don the road towards Lewis's?

I thought that the Carousel's restaurant was downstairs and the coffee bar upstairs - however I could be wrong because next door was the Delmore (Delmont?) which was an almost identical set-up. I know one had the restaurant upstairs and the coffee bar down, but I'm damned if I remember which! I remember sitting in one and watching the Golden Ring sign opposite.

We also used to go to the Skan a Grill on Merrion Street, we used to have steak and chips and all the trimmings about once or twice a year, they used to serve orange sorbet in orange skins, we thought we were extremely sophisticated.

Thank you Ruffarse and Trojan for the info on Carousel.I think the Greek cafe was down stairs. I believe two cousins were George Demetriou and Costas Ignatiou. I do not know about any others. Perhaps some one can enlighten me. I am not sure if the Costas you refer to, Ruffarse, was Costas Ignatiou. Was there a son called Angelo? It amazing that 43 years have passed. Don't know how it has gone so quickly. The problem is when you look back memories get a bit confusedI am trying to sort out what was where in that part of Briggate but thwarted by the fact that the old rate books of Leeds City Council have apparently been destroyed. Most other local authorities kept at one in five (every fifth year) Trust Leeds to be different!

Golden Ring chinky Trojan, that was my first one too AND same nosh, curry chicken and chips! Have we come a long way or what?Do you frequent Karachi in Bradford, or maybe Kashmir? Still the best two imo, although judgement could be clouded by several pints in Fighting Cock.
