Quirky shops,stalls etc in Leeds

Strange how people talk about you on this forum as though you don't exist when all they have to do is email you to avoid all the gossip! Steven Jones may have given forum readers the impression that because the Sorcerer's Apprentice closed its doors to browsing customers in 1996 that we are a spent force. The truth is that we still service over seventy thousand regular clients world-wide by mail-order, most in the U.K. but a growing proportion from the U.S.A. and the rest of the world. Just because Steven was banned from buying from us doesn't mean others were.

. The Sorcerer's Apprentice has for three decades been a perfect example of the kind of multiculturalism which is so necessary to peace and equality in our society and particularly in Leeds. What is even more impressive is that they have done this without fanfare, mostly at their own expense, with precious little help from orthodoxy and at great personal risk to life and limb. As a Leeds lad myself I find this lack of appreciation disconcerting so if anyone wants to check anything I invite them to email me so they can gain a proper perspective.RegardsJohn Dennis. I never meant to imply that sorcerers apprentice had ceased trading as I know they are still there.

Anybody remember 'The Pink Banana' shop on North Street in Chapel Allerton in the 1980's? It was completely zany but all the kids and all the trendy mums seemed to love it.

I've never seen anywhere with that name ..... but I would guess the shop is on Hudson Road, Harehills. Am I right?

How abt Kaye's Nougat factory just up HudsonRoad from Monty's? Firm I worked for had thecontract for sevicing the electrics in the building.We had to wait until the vats of melted nougatwere emptied,around 5pm,so that we could checkthe motors and switchgear. When the Kaye's staff had gone home we would scrape out the remaining hardening Nougat andstuff ourselves silly! Made myself sick as a dog oneevening and I could never look nougat in the face ever after!The machines were belt driven from a long revolving shaft andpulleys along one wall. One day,when I was putting upelectrical conduit along the wall behind the shaft,my overall sleevegot hooked by a joint coupling bolt which was turning(!) (Health n'safety?,you're joking). They had a special ladder hooked over the shaft and I had to lean across to the wall to rawlplug (By Hand!)so as to fix the saddles for the conduit! Needless to say I was pulled over the shaft and luckily,the sleeve ripped and let me go!I landed feet down from 7 ft so was very lucky. Could've ended up in some kid's nutty nougat!!This should be on the 'Things you don't see anymore' thread! Sorry!

Whilst in Otley today for the Folk Festival, I noticed a wonderful shop over the road from the bus station.It is called:BRIAN PICKLES LAWNMOWERSI must confess to being disappointed not to see any pickled lawnmowers in the window so maybe Brian had sold out<LOL>.however this shop specialises in lawnmowers of all descriptions so if you have a lawnmower fetish this is the shop for you!
