After Ivano, it was run by Gary and Stella, and then Gary on his own. It's an unusual restaurant, being in the middle of a parade of shops.

Hullo Si, Havn't forgotten you re Tiberio's, mate. I'm still waiting for my stepson to answer my e-mail. I think he's fallen out with me.Yeah, I appreciate the irony re asking someone living im Malta about a restaurant 10 mile away! You've probably had half a dozen meals there in the time its taken for me to get back to you.Valletta is still good. Hot and full of bloody tourists but good. They've got an M&S on Strait St now with a bar! Every branch should have one.Too hot to go out at moment, 34c, thank God for the computer.Back in Leeds in Oct for some cool and some proper ale!

Another for your list is Jacomelli's, also on Boar Lane close to the bottom of Albion Street. Very nice steaks in there as well not to mention the almost obligatory (in the 60s and early 70s) bottle of Mateus Rose. How sophisticated it all seemed.

It was owned by a bloke called Ivano, and had a huge menu (variety of dishes, not shear size.)A favourite meal would be canneloni followed by Chicken Cordon Bleu (chicken breast stuffed with ham and cheese and deep-fried in breadcrumbs - coronary on a plate) followed by Neapolitan ice-cream. I couldn't eat that much now.I think Tiberio's is still going. Anyone know for sure? Hi Si, Tiberios is still open on Galloway Lane,in there about 18 months ago. Lovely meals plenty of it and not bad prices.Remember Costas Steak House well and enjoyed some really good meals in there.

What about the Khyber Pass on Wellington St? Just opposite the Kwai Lam chinese. Open mid 60's to about '70.Re. the Peony, remember the one opposite, up the stairs, the Hao Wah? IMO the best in Leeds at that time. Used to save my 3bob LV's and take girl friend there. Curried King Prawns, CHIPS! and crispy noodles. What a heathen. The owners wife was brill, Chinese with a broard Leeds accent. Ta, luv, when you paid the bill.What was the original chinese called on Eastgate where Shebab is now? I remember it being called Red Bird and Mulligans but not sure of original name.

In the Peony I had chicken curry and chips!!! And I was sold, we also used to go into a Chinese near the Ashoka in the Merrion Centre. In the seventies when I was on the road full time I got into the habit of having the Chinese business lunch which used to cost about .75p - amazing value. You got soup - main course (Chinese or English) and sweet (usually pineapple fritter or similar) The soup used to be the consistency of wall paper paste and various colours depending on what it was supposed to be . I wonder if you can still get it?

"I am aware of what was meant by the thread? Just thought that I would add this as a point of interest and yes you are correct these were the owners.
