Well clearly you would think that these projects will all eventually come back on line in one way or another. This current crunch wont last forever, and it has probably brought the market back down to some normality.Instead of building loads of cheaply made but expensively priced flats for investors to expand their "Portfolio",leave empty and watch their investment grow (by artificially strangling available proprty)then perhaps when its all settled down there will be fewer, but better quality and reasonably priced types of accomadation that ordinary folks will want and be able to afford.I think we all knew this couldnt continue forever, but im sure it will kick start again.

About time they built something to benefit the people of Leeds and then it may get built and finished. Is that the development called "Echo"?If so, in last nights YEP Homes section, they were offering apartments for sale with no deposit and a mortage at the equivalent of £50.00 a week on selected reservations...I'm guessing that will be one beds on the ground floor facing Richmond Hill rather than the city centre, but it gives you some idea of the panic amongst the developers. Is Wellington Plaza the development that covered the former Aireside Centre? Shame if it is, I was looking forward to the "beach".

That building has been there for some years now and was refurbished around 12 years ago by the contractors we used and was indeed called the Wellington Plaza!

Can you imagine that? You've spent a small fortune on your new house an "executive" development, then found out it used to be a mental hospital. This is on top of it taking you an age to get to work in Leeds as the roads simply can't cope with all the additional traffic this and other developments have caused. The trains are no better as they are crammed full and stop everytime the Aire floods at Kirkstall, which seems to be everytime there is heavy rain. Then building work stops and your luxury home is marooned between a building site and a partially demolished mortuary. The credit crunch takes hold and your home is suddenly worth a lot less than you paid for it when you took out your 125% mortgage with Northern Rock. Then the developer rings up and asks if you've any objection to them housing a couple of hundred DSS tenants next door... Also, they're built on a swamp! Yes, really. Before Highroyds was built, the area was marshland. It still floods regularly. I heard somewhere, that some of the new houses had to be underpinned after they were built and before they were sold!

Another one bite the dust - BBC new site says that Criterion Place has been scrapped, not just postponed!A failure to submitt a suitable planning application is said to be the reason the contract has been terminated, but that it seems, is accredited to the project no longer being financial viable. The speed at which things are going belly-up at the moment does make you wonder how sound they were to start with.
