Ok...1.Kirkstall Lights has its own threadhttp://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Messages.as ... adID=10062 .You are referring to the Fax and Newt, formerly Ruland HotelIts on the pubs worth celebrating thread here (page4). It seems to be being renovated at the moment - dont know if its going to reopen as a pub or not.http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... ghLight=13. The Boston Exchange/Boston Diner/ St.Anne;s pub has been demolished - it has been mentioned a few times. There's a pic of it when derelict halfway down page 2 of this thread. Now demolished and the site is empty.4. the Globe - now residential - there's a pic of it being converted on Page 1 of this thread.5. Big Lil's - this has been mentioned on the 'Town centre pubs' thread - but only in passing.6. Nags Head, Vicar Lane. Now a bookmakers - couple of Pics halfway down page 4 of this thread.

Ta for the info to my rather clumsily worded post (eg mentioning Nags Head being boarded up when it shut years ago etc). Also a coincidence as I was going to mention the Ancestor when I next came on here but have been beaten to it!On the Kirkstall Lites thread someone mentioned the problem of a dodgy pub closing and the clientele all moving to one nearby and eventually getting that closed.I spent a few years living in one of London's satellite towns and this happened to such an extent that in about 4 or 5 years (in the late 80s/early 90s) about 5 (1 closed twice!) of the town centres' most popular pubs lost their licenses and closed when the drug dealers moved in!You just knew that when one closed one of the nearby pub's life could be measured in months.

Well, thats that then.Don't they have to get permission to knock places down?Slightly further up York Road, it must be two years now since the Lion and Lamb was also demolished, supposedly to be redveloped as an Aldi (or similar budget supermarket) and nothing has happened... Here's a photo I took shortly after it closed

I think the owner was an irish guy from Beeston.

Hullo JAMESY 08, The old Library on Nineveh Rd, or Cambrian, is now an office HQ for one of these arty farty graphic design companies. I used to do express deliveries for them and I can assure the fire place is still in situ, but only as a feature.Anyone remember the Crystal Palace which if memory serves me well was on Sweet St, opposite Meadow Lane gas works?

Aye, I remember the Crystal Palace, which I think is listed somewhere on this thread. I never went in, mind, but I can remember it being opposite the LA Bowl - which is now also gone, completely flattened and the site cleared. There is an article in the YEP tonight that the near legendary Josephs Well is also closed. Apparently the licencee simply had enough and shut up shop! The owners (Enterprise Inns - again - is this merely co-incidence?) say the reopening is "imminent", but we shall see.
