Leeds lost pubs

Oh dear - it doesn't sound good for the White Cross! In the late 70s it was run by a couple called Melvin and Shirley (I think) and the beer was very good. They had a pot-man called Willie, and a Weimaraner that lived on the fire escape.Sounds like the Golden Lion hasn't changed at all!!!I still like the Bankhouse, but I preferred it when it was full of brass and copper stuff hanging from the ceiling! PS Has the White Cross still got the same internal layout? From the bottom entrance there were two hip-height walls which funnelled you to the bar. There were open seating areas to left and right. The toilets were opposite the bar (to your left) and between them and the top entrance was a snug type room. To the right of this entrance was the tap room (no carpet, beer 2p a pint cheaper!) ^^Yep, one of the pubs on that road has to go and I would imagine The White Cross is a good candidate.Shame as I really liked it maybe twelve months ago. Then someones wife ran off with someone else etc etc and it went downhill fast.I haven't been in lately but the mood in there a few months ago was ugly

That's a shame. I used to love that pub. Shouts of "It's only Willie!", raw black pudding, pork pies, and bread and mucky dripping on the bar Sunday lunchtimes, beautiful Tetley Mild.....happy days...

Yeah the White Cross is pretty much the same apart from a pool table in the snug and on the few times I have been in there lately, "younger" drinkers in the tap room.All the atmosphere seemed to drain overnight from this place when it changed owners.There is a new owner once again although the "To Let" signs are still all over it. He is a local lad so I hope he can turn it around.

HiI noticed the White Stag is featured on page 1 by Draspesy. Not sure if anyone knows but there is a planning application currently pending for its demolition, and the erection of Chinese supermarket?
