Thanks for reply.             On Frances wedding cert her father is stated as Benjamin Smith (deceased). His occupation was a commercial traveller.             At the time of the marriage (1904) she was living at 6 Belmont Crescent Hunslet.             The only birth certs that might fit is one in Kidderminster in 1881 and one in Bethnal Green in the same year. I have looked at cencus for 81,91 and 1901 but nothing seems to fit.             Hope you can help. Thanks Michael

My GG Grandfather Moses Wilkinson Mann born Leeds North in 1852 shows up on all the relevant cencuses up to 1901 living in the Burmantofts area(he died in1910) except the 1871,I'm now wondering if he may have been in the army at this time or even worse in prison? Can anyone shed any light on how I could find out,and fill in the gap.I would be most grateful for any help on this. Well you may have aproblem here because i have some relaives who should also have been in Burmantofts in 1871 and i cant find them either.Perhaps theres some sections missing.Have you tried looking for his parents in the 1871 census? Yes I have found his mother who was widowed by then and also his grandparents George and Mary Locker, but no Moses? He was unmarried and living with his grandmother on the 1881 cencus so wherever he disappeared to on the 1871 is a mystery

No problem. I think Brick Street was (is?) in the Bank area of East Leeds, a popular place for immigrants from Ireland to settle. Not many farms around there, I would have thought...

Here's where it was in 1951 - in the centre of the map, marked Marsh Lane tenements, 13-24. Unfortunately a quick look at live search maps shows a huge block of modern flats on the site!

A quick look on Leodis shows us just what kind of place Brick Street was, all I can say is thank God that they were pulled down.

Yes, it was a bit grim, Hats Off. Interesting to notice a block of Glasgow-style tennements (unless it's a mill.)
