Leeds lost pubs

This map is from 1963. I'm surprised to see that the Leeds House Cafe in the Market Place was also a pub - never knew that.

Thanks for that, Tasa. I knew The Leeds House used to be a pub, but I didn't realise how big The Melbourne Vaults was! Also on the map are The Black Bull (still there,) and The New Inn (gone.) Just off the map are The Black Horse (still there,) The White Horse (gone,) The Queens Head (gone) and The Royal Oak (gone.)

Of all the sites on secret leeds the ones with the most hits are about pubs when i find out wy i will let you all know.

To save me trawling through 42 pages is there a photo of the long demolished Coach & Horses which used to be at the junction of Elland Road and the road which went off towards Beeston?

my old neighbour on Bruce Lawn said they were a pub at the end every street before they rebuilt this housing estate. he said you could never get to town coz you got drunk

I was thinking of the "2 foot 6 inches" distance from the front walls in Boroughgate to the actual doorways - as you say the Bay Horse is still like that as was the Melbourne.

".........................................................................................................Yes the Leeds House was an excellent pub (Melbourne Ales I think but may be wrong) and served the most scrumptious "home cooked" dinners and puddings for next to nowt - Happy days indeed.
