If you don't mind a train journey of around half an hour or about double that by very reasonable bus services, you could do far worse than to consider Burley in Wharfedale, Ben Rhydding or Ilkley. All are close to the most beautiful scenery, and Ilkley is a very nice town indeed - of "Ilkla' Moor Bah t'at" old song fame. There is a wide variety of really nice property in all three places, and very easy access to Leeds, Bradford and to the Lakes and to the West Coast in particular, and to all the fabulous vastness of the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales. This area provides a real contrast to busy city life but without being too far away from everything important. Definitely worth a good look.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

You could add Otley to Blakey's list. It has all the same benefits, but housing is a little cheaper. It is also famous for it's pubs (25+) if you like a pint. It also has a market, a farmers' market and the oldest agricultural show in England. A picture of Otley occasionally appears at the top of this page (the one with a lake in the foreground.) It's easy to drive to Leeds, there is a good bus service and Menston railway station is nearby. Leeds/Bradford airport is 5 minutes away. The Chevin is good for walking/cycling/running/climbing.Happy house hunting and good luck!!! PS See www.otleyonline.co.uk

Rothwell is a great suburb with a village feel and lots of history. it has decent facilities (currently being drastically updated with new shops, Morrisons and indoor mall. Very near Woodlesford as mentioned earlier. House prices probably on the high side for this side of Leeds but will be sustainable after building work completed. Great for shopping in Wakey, Cas or Leeds. M62 and M1 easily accessible within a mile or so. Good little schools and a new one being built to replace Rodillian.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.

In addition, 2,3 and 4 bedroom apartments being built only 250 yards away. On top of that McCarthy and Stone are building retirement flats opposite the station, should you want to bring the in-laws up with you too!!Guiseley is a lovely spot. You get the best of both worlds with easy access to Lovely Leeds and close to The Dales. It has good shops, good eateries and a thriving live music scene.Lilysmum comes from Guiseley too, I think. Maybe she'll add to my eulogy. Couldn't agree more!and lots of choice of different types of property from apartments and flats, stone terraces to large £1m + des res's.A quick commute away from Town for work or a night out and get the last train back to Guiseley for a few on the way home at one of the bars.Five minutes walk and you can be in lovely countryside. On the whole it's quite a nice place to live with everything the town centre has to offer easily accessible.Good luck with the house hunting, sure you'll love it in Leeds.
