Have discovered though that the "Goodman" on Hunslet rd & "Silver Cross" on Dewsbury rd, both gone now, were also run by my ancestors. Did not realise that I came from so many publicans. Might explain a few things!!!! Thanks to this website for pointing me to Leodis - I managed to see pictures of both establishments. Elly The Goodman building is still there of course, although it hasn't been a pub for 10 years or more. There's an interesting tale behind the 'Silver Cross '- The street at the side (Silver Cross Street) had a small works building called , not very imaginatively - 'Silver Cross Works'. In the 1870s a certain William Wilson started a business making perambulators - which grew into the famous 'Silver Cross' company. As Michael Caine might say "Not a lot of people know that" The Silver Cross was situated near the top of Dewsbury Road - the site has now completely disappeared due to Motorway developments.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Spot on PJ...As soon as I say Jacomelli's, it all came back...was a bit of a plush joint for that era..half pint dimple's as you say, not a bad place to pull a bird if your luck was in, and your wallet had a quid in it.Frank

The Highwood on Brackenwood Drive, Moortown, has been shut since late March due to a dispute between the last landlord and the pub chain (http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 4039259.jp).However, it now appears that the pub will re-open on June 6th.

IAM WROTE :-i have seen a pub like building half way up buslingthorpe rd, all boarded up for a long time. i asked a friend about it and he seems to recall it was a pub that closed down after alot of trouble one night and never re opened, but he can't remember the name! can any one help Just a guess, but is it the Skinners' Arms perhaps ??
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
