'twas originally part of the third White Cloth Hall, and was formerley known as the Assembley Rooms. Opened 9th June 1777 and in 1860s as the Assembly Rooms became a working men's institute.later they were taken over by L. Hurst & Son, Wholesale Tobacco Merchants, when the building became known as Waterloo House. Before it was cafe rouge, it was an antiques centre with lots of stalls all under one roof.

Hi Ninamaria,The building was opened in 1777 on a wing of the third White Cloth Hall as a centre for evening entertainment. It had a ballroom, supper rooms and card rooms. By the mid 1800s it was a working men's club, before becoming Towler's Globe Foundry Warehouse. In 1923, it was a tobacco warehouse and was renamed Waterloo House. It is now fulfilling it's original function again! All this and more (inc old pics) can be found on Leodis.Cheers,Si.Oops! Beat me to it, LS1!

Unlikely that there will be any other than those on Leodis. Could try the library in town though...
