It was a great team effort there and a great quirky little tale of Leeds, I'm sure we'll all have a look at the innocent old Crown chippy & see it as a more mysterious place these days. I love all these little known things about our city. This is what secret Leeds come up trumps for. The mystery has taken us over a year to solve but we got there! Beers all round I say.

Thanks there Fev. That pic is a real old one I took with my compact camera I started out with. Regarding the Crown sign I've only quoted from the Haunted Leeds book as to the debate. It' an interesting book well worth getting a copy. We solved a puzzle the author himself didn't know.

Thanks leeds Lass. I think there is deffo room for a Leeds book like this. Leeds City Council get that sponsorship money coming. I'm sure Drapsey & Csnosi amongst many others would agree here lol

I totally agree with you! Leeds is almost recognisable from when I was a kid. My favourite view, and you would have loved the photo opportunity Phil, was from the cafe right at the top of Schofields, as was, back in the mid 70's. Views over the whole of the market end of Leeds. I used to sit looking out over the rooftops and think it was magical! The "tallest" building you could see was the market!!! Unlike now, bloody Bridgewater! (Wish I could remember the cafe name. I think Schofields had 2 cafes and one A La Carte restaurant. Used to go there too! Their mixed grill was to die for! Served from silver platters by women wearing black and white waitresses outfits, with little frilly "tiara" type hats on! Sorry, went all nostalgic there!!) I think it's a shame when the hidden treasures get bulldozed without a thought. Access all areas before it's too late I say!!!

Yes without a doubt. These places need documenting. All too often these days were denied access. Lamberts yard amongst others are gated off. That's all thanks to the asbo crowd tho.

It's one of the oldest (if not the oldest) timber framed Merchant houses in Leeds. There's more info here.http://www.leodis.net/GuidedTour.aspx?ORDER=1&ID=1
