By the way, this is a plan for the Market.Far from being run down it looks like the council are going to give it the boost it needs. Looks like they want to keep the market, whilst ensuring its up to date.So the talk of running it down seems thankfully,a little off the mark.

Not keen on Geordies then cnosni? For now, I'll just reiterate that my comments [read them again] were about the north east, not just [magnificent] Newcastle, but I'll expand and respond more specifically tomorrow.

"Give me the north east anytime. You want plain speaking? You got it. You want magnificent countryside on your doorstep? You got it. You want fantastic beaches within half an hour's drive or less? You got it. Great pubs? And many with FREE bands? You got it, most nights of the week. Vibrant city centre? Examples of great architecture, iconic structures, strong culture" Well the majority of your comments appear to be Geordie Centric,i as opposed to the North east in general(see above). But as some of your comments are about the northeast as a whole then perhaps ,as you are using regional comparisons, then you should read my comments again.Especially the ones regarding Yorkshire and how it can blow the North East out of the water with its scenery, straight talking (for which we are famous). its pubs,(we are famous for our country pubs, not so the North East),beer (we have more than one sort)and its sheer scale and size (a population greater than that of Scotland)The Yorkshire identity is second to none,i bet my a*** that you have never ever met anyone who says they are from Northumbria (or any county),whereas you know for a fact that you will find some beligerent Yorkshireman in some far flung corner of the globe mouthing off that he is from gods county.I love to contribute to secret leeds because i love Leeds, genuinely.Im sure there are many more places in the world that are socially, artistically and aesthetically superior to Leeds, but they are not Leeds.Enjoy magnificent Newcastle, and the miserable so and sos that inhabit it.

Just to make a small point without being too controversial (cnosno ;-)). Those up in Redcar and Cleveland think that they are North East, but really we all know they are still part of Yorkshire in their hearts!!

Just seen my posts from last night, and reading them again they look quite aggressive, which was not the spirit in which they were written, which was a bit of a dig at Newcastle and its image and its stereotypes.(apart from the racist bit,ill stick by that)There are some fantastic beaches up and around Seahouses/Berwick,the coast line is superb and we travel there regularly, but i would not swap it for the Dales, the Peak district etc as these places never fail to take my breath no matter how mnay times i go.Funnily enough i work with a chap who is from up that way and he seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. He has that North East twang in his Yorkshire accent, and you usully get a mixed bag of pronunciation in any one sentence.Ill ask him what he feels he is part of.

if I can offer a slightly different perspective.I don't come from leeds but have lived here for 25 years. There are aspects of it that I like, aspects that I don't like. On balance ther pluses outweigh the minuses: and it's home. But when people ask me where I'm from I never ever say leeds. When I go saway there is never anything I miss about Leeds. But turning onto my street on the ay home I get a great feeling.
I went down to the crossroads and got down on my knees

Si, I used to work on Berners Street, just off Oxford Street but now I work on Gower Street, right at the top by Bedford Square (just around the corner from Tottenham Court Road). It really took some getting used to, commuting. When I was in Leeds I had parking in the city centre which was luxury when I think back! I'd leave work at 4.30pm and be home for 5.00pm at the latest. I leave at 5.30pm and I get home at 6.50pm now but then I have got a 25 mile journey compared to a 7 mile one. It only takes me an hour on a morning though.
