Does anyone know anything about the large American car that is/was parked in a drive on Woodhall Lane opposite Thornbury Barracks? It was a large pale green 70s machine (don't know the make or model) and wasn't moved for years, and slowly rotted away. I just wondered what happened.

It was certainly there until recently. Typically I pass the other way going home on an evening so don't get much of a look but it definitely looked in keeping with the house it was parked outside. Classic American car and classic American looking shack. Kind of at odds with those houses around it.

It's still there?!!! I'll have to have a drive up there this week and have a look. Thanks, Spongebob. There can't be much of it left. I remember the house - a wooden ranch-style bungalow, I believe.

Yeah I tried looking as I went past today, I think maybe the house has been tarted up a bit too or maybe I was looking at the wrong one.On a similar theme there used to be an old Mk10 jaguar in a field with a horse at Drighlington that was there for many years, my grandma used to live there and we caught the bus back to Morley from opposite when I young (probably very early 80's).

The guy who lived in the house opposite the barracks is a keen Hot Rod and Classic car enthusiast. He also has(d) an American Pick-Up tuck too. Can't remember the name he trades under but he used to advertise in "Custom Car" mag at one time and regularly attended "Leeds Cruise" on the 2nd Saturday of every month in the B&Q car park on Beeston Ring Road. Perhaps he's moved now?

Thanks for that, Nick. I doubt if he drove the car away!

A garage in Swillington used to specialise in American Cars (in the 70's). I used to love driving past.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.

The garage at Swillington was called "American Autopower" and owned by a drag racer called Dave Grady. He later owned the outdoor karting centre off South Accomodation Road.Sadly Dave died a few years ago. He had some awesome cars there though and was one of the leading lights in UK Drag Racing in the 70's and 80's.
