Thanks again, Cnosni. He was born in 1877, so we're looking at early 20th century, I guess. According to the 1901 Census, he was living at Branston Terrace, Hunslet at the time, but I know he lived on Eighteenth Avenue in Wortley in later life (in fact he's buried over the wall in Wortley Cemetery!) He also played for Morley and Yorkshire RU, if that's any help?I asked Drapesy if he could help, but I was given duff information about the pub's name by me Dad, so no joy.It looks like a dead end - never mind.Cheers,Simon

Landlords had to be licenced in that period. try looking for records of licences granted by the local magistrayes courts. West yorkshire Archives hold some of them.the A2A (Access to Archives)site can help with searching for what they have. This is a very useful site for Family Historians as it lets you know what is availble in collections all over the UK.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

Si, try Whites directories, I think they are on genuki. they have all trades listed with names, I found my g.g. grandfather listed as a bricklayer living in Myrtle st. all pubs and publicans are also listed, apologies if you already aware of this, cheers
