I went to Elmfield County Secondary Modern on Bridge Street, between 1957 & 1961 it has been demolished and replaced with a Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints tabernacle. It's about five years since they knocked it down, I only discovered they were knocking it down when I went to inspect an excavator that was carrying it out! I would have welcomed a last look inside, but too late. It's a funny feeling to think that somewhere that was so familiar, so commonplace, no longer exists.

It was only built in the 1960s and lasted less than 20 years - disappearing in 1979 when it was amalgamated with the next door John Bosco school to create Cardinal Heenan High. The old school buildings on Tongue Lane have since been demolished and a whole new school built. Started at John Bosco's on the opening day...we transferred from St Annes for boys...only went there for 6months as my time was up and had to leave... time to earn a quid for a living...Think the heads name was Mr Gabbot..the deputy was 'Old Sid' (Mr Firth) from St Annes.

I have been looking out for a photo of Brownhill school on the net but no joy so far on Leodis or here.I came across this pic of Beeston Road school taken in 1951 which might be of interest to some readers of this thread. If anyone does have a long forgotten photo of Brownhill please post it.

It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

Not used the site for long and only just found out to upload a photo. Will this photo of Brownhill School do , I like you have looked everywhere for one. Note the inscription on the bottom of the photo say's Harehills road strange since the photographer's address is Compton road which is just down the road from the school.

did anyone go to coldcotes and remember mr jowett or mr garside? mr jowett ruled with an iron hand, but he was fair, however he was a dinosaur teacher,as he learned us the words to wonderful amy and told me that everything pink on the map is the empire.....this was in 1974!!! god bless him.
