My fave cafe in Leeds (late 1980s) used to be up a side street, between the Schofield's Centre and Albion Street, by 'Beatties' the model shop. Can't for the life of me remember what it was called now...It had a really cheesey sign inside that said '*cafe name*...a good place for good people'! Edit: Just remembered! It was called 'Aroma' Coffe House. (I think!)

Thanks to Arry Awk for sending me the following information.Below are some screen shots from a list of Leeds cafes and restaurants, taken from a book of the same titleby Donald Tate. It was published in 1988 and contains some great pix dating back to 1902! Arry got permission from Donald, via his wife,Margaret, to publish any photos from the book for S/Leeds. So here's a few to start with.A map of thre cafes in Leeds centre.A menu from Woolworths, does anyone remember it?I don't think this has been mentioned, but I certainly remember this place

Look at those prices! Thru'pence for soup...a tanner (2.5p) for a roast lamb dinner! Also, on the map is Betty's. Was it still there in 1988? Anyone else remember when Leeds had a Betty's?

I don't remember a Betty's, but would it be the same as the Harrogate one? I do remember the ranchburger joint as the Ceylon tea room. To get to it you had to go downstairs, I can't remember what was on the ground floor!

Yes, it was the same as Betty's in Harrogate/Ilkley etc. The shop was on the ground floor (corner at bottom of Lands Lane) and the caff was upstairs. I remember they used to sell those cakes shaped like Dougal from Magic Roundabout.I can't recall what was on the ground floor of the Ceylon Tea Centre, either. It always looked more like a travel agents than a caff to me, for some reason!

To be fair, I think the more people DO get angry about this the better the chance of this money grabbing spineless council backing down.

On Look North tonight it was suggested there may be an 11th hour reprieve for the Red Bus.The possible loop-hole involves altering the serving hatch so that it opens facing the woods at the back rather than the road side.

Hi great map of the cafes mentioned but there's one I mentioned earlier with no confirmation. I'm sure it was on Albion St, near the top (Headrow) and weas a place where you picked out your food and then popped in a little micorwave box. Called the 'magic Box' perhaps .. this is from around 1970 or so
