Wow, I just read this whole thread ... thanks all for the happy memories.
I met my husband at the rollerena in 1972 we used to spend 6 nights a week there but sadly missed the Bowie concert. I waved to Austin Mitchell once as he was leaving the Yorkshire TV studio next door and he waved back!
The first song I heard on my first night in the rollerena was, Witch Queen of New Orleans by Redbone. I can't remember the classical music tune which played during the duos/trios.

I too have lots of happy memories here. I spent many happy hours here both skating and working. I used to attend the staff call before each session and then either work or skate. I was lucky to work through the Bowie concerts too. I remember the staff Les Phillips, Dave Alexander, DJ Paddy and doormen Mick, Jock and Peter. I met Peter years later when he was doormen at the Precinct disco pub and we have a son together.
