Sandy Lobby?

Not the one at Pool in Wharfedale.Here's a postcard on Leodis saying it's Sandy Lobby in Meanwood Woods. http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 72406Spent a lot of time there myself as a child and I've no memory of it. By chance when looking at photos linked to Google maps I've come across one dated 2018 stated to show 'Sandy Lobby' and that it is an historical landmark. The photo mainly shows rocks by the side of Adel Beck at a site (based on its location given on the map) which will be a short way downstream from the Seven Arches. I've never heard of Sandy Lobby and was going to do a thread but I came across this old one. Does anyone know anything more about Sandy Lobby than is already in this thread?

It's hard to tell exactly where the area apparently known a Sandy Lobby is in Scotland Wood (Meanwood Wood) but if it is an historical landmark it would be interesting if anyone knows what that refers to.

In the information brought up through the Thoresby link that Geordie-exile provided it states "SANDY LOBBY. A bathing-cum-padding pool situated by Aire Street and used during the nineteenth century". It's hard to visualise now that a "bathing-cum paddling pool" was there in what I assume was in the River Aire!

I wonder what became of the pubs named in the coroner's report provided by uncle mick, being: Moulders' Arms, Trafalgar Inn, Seven Stars Inn.

Looking at the Godfrey Edition Leeds Sheet 14 (Leeds Stations 1847 1863) which shows the area before the Leeds New Station of c1870 was constructed, a narrow bridge over the canal Branch and basin leading from the main Leeds and Liverpool canal to the river Aire can be see near Monk Pit Lock. It is marked "turn bridge", and looks to be what would now be described as a swing bridge. With that in mind the route that those mentioned in the newspaper report which uncle mick posted (above) took would have been along Sandford Street and across the old wooden wakway over the river at Waterloo Ford, and across the "turn bridge". This would take them past the Waterloo Swinming Baths site, which may be (or may not be) the Sandy-lobby referred to. Another possibility is that as the Aire had Waterloo ford by the wooden bridge, Sandy-lobby described a shallow area of the river itself, before it was more closely channelled under the new station
