Well you live and learn . I always thought that Eastgate was the name of a road but this photo that I took on February 28 2017 shows that Eastgate is actually a doorway!
The doorway is near the Eastgate roundabout and is in use as some people came out while I was a few minutes in the area (nobody though went in!).

Alot of people think that Eastgate starts at Vicar Lane and ends at the roundabout system at St Peter’s Street/Bridge Street (where the petrol station used to be), when, in fact, it veers left at the roundabout, in a northerly direction, and finishes at New York Road/Regent Street. I think that your photograph is part of the old Marquis of Granby pub.

Hi Ian .
It was not until early last June that I found out that Eastgate ran further than I thought when I saw an Eastgate road sign on the wall of the homes near to the New York Road flyover. Up to then I would have said the road there was the start of Regent Street.

The part of Eastgate that stretches from St Peter's St to New York Road/ Regent Street was originally the south west (ish) part of Quarry Hill. The rest of Quarry Hill being buried under New York Road.
