The bit I remember as being the seperate little mini market was the green one. It had a great big stuffed donky toy for sale that I always wanted! The building onthe corner of Milgarth Street just at the bottom of your circle is still there, all on its own. something to do with the council storage I hearedAlso I thought the Market Tavern was on the corner with Harewood Street which would be the next street up toward Vicar lane from your purple circle. I remember the separate little bit too. I must of been about 9 or 10. My Mum & Nanna called it the flea market. Happy memories i have of the old market with its down stairs toilets & rough lucking green wooden stalls. We would go every saturday & i would always get ago on the "worly gig". I think the sandwich shop/backers next to the old bus station was called Caricks in the early 90's. Those wooden stalls made great beds at two in the morning, trying to get home from Scrumpies!!

Hi there!! I am new this site. I have reading it for a while now and thought why not post! I am really interested in the more recent history of leeds (1970-) and I love seeing the rather large pic of the City centre, especially around the market. I remember the row of buildings running down the side before it was demolished to make way for the car park. One of the shops was called cornells and it had a chip shop next door called Frank's I think, I never went in there because the chip shop on the market's side was much better! Also I loved to see what was before the St John's centre because I was born after it was built. It looked very green and a whole sight better than it does now!

The record shop was Kennedy's, they also had a stall at the bottom end of the out door market just around the corner from the bus station gents.
