Oooops ............. Its New Station Street, not New Market Street
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

 me! I blame the thread that I started about an old pub on New Market Street had influenced me. At least I clearly now qualify for a job at the YEP! Memo to self - don't criticise the YEP again (well until the next time that I do). ;)

Thank for the postings about the YEP retro photo.
I knew there was something wrong but I just couldn't work out what it was.
The online image is better than my newsprint one.

Perhaps it is because New Station Street continues over Boar Lane from Albion Street there is some confusion... Shame nobody thought to check. The street sign even says New Station Street - even if it's too small to read its obvious that it is too long to say "Albion Street"!

The 'Monday Retro' feature on page 18 in the YEP today (Dec 7 2015) has a brief article about the Oakwood clock in which it states "The clock, which has fallen into disrepair, is the subject of a campaign led by local people to have it restored to its former glory". To the best of my knowledge the clock was restored some while back!

Neil Hudson who runs the feature does seem to be interested in local history so its a pity that the 'Monday Retro' does have incorrect facts at times that could be readily checked before running the feature.

They're just filling paper with tat. It's a slippery slope downhill, can't believe it's still going to be honest.......I would say that 2016 is going to see weither YP or YEP fold, or maybe combine....
Come on Leeds United!

Shops don't seem to stock as many copies as they used to.
Last week I tried to get a copy at a few places over the week and they didn' have any left, WHS
at the White Rose was one at about 3pm.
Usual accuracy last Saturday.
On this day section,Britain's first motorway opened the M1 Preston bypass and.....the local history page had
an item about 400+ vagrants in Leeds in1800 and something, they got 2pints of gruel a day and a smallish amount of bread, later in the paper Did you know? reported the same instance but only getting 1pint of gruel and 12 pounds! of bread.
Info from memory but the 12 pounds of bread is right.
