York road butchers 1960s

Hi all I'm new to the forum, looking to locate my half sister from my father's previous relationship.
All I know about her is that her mother was the daughter of a butcher on york road somewhere near the bus depot.
If anyone could help out with the name of the business or the butcher himselfs name I would be most grateful. Unfortunately I am unable to ask my father as he has passed away.

Although from 1938 this is (Charles) Revell's Butchers http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... 3_31626528 on what I am guessing is back Ivy Street/Ave and pretty much opposite where Torre Road bus depot was over York Road. According to York Road Lad on this old thread http://secretleeds.com/viewtopic.php?t=4776 it was still there but closed in 2013 so this Google Street View Image https://goo.gl/maps/9kxUvKN53qK2 of Back Ivy Street is it if I'm guessing correctly. And the view from York Road in 2008 https://goo.gl/maps/G6y8onNQrSK2 . We have one or two forum members with historic trade directory and/or phonebook access who may be able to confirm it was still open in the 60s.

One of Revells Butchers was that double fronted shop opposite what was the Shaftesbury Cinema. Sort of a scruffy furniture shop last time I was in Leeds. The Vinerys row of shops, opposite the bus station was in those days a vibrant shopping parade and would have been sure to have had a butchers on there.

Harold Richard White (who I estimate must have been born within roughly ten years either side of 1900) owned the shop on York Road (as mentioned in Uncle Mick's post above) and a shop in Kirkgate market. The one on York Road was on the same parade of shops as Sunter's newsagents and sweet shops (Teddy and Nellie Sunter were my grandmother's relatives).

Harold R White married my grandmother's cousin Dorothy, I'm afraid I don't know what her maiden name was but she may have been a Sunter. Harold made a very good living from his shops and took his family to live at Sewerby Grange just outside Bridlington, which is now a hotel (not to be confused with Sewerby Hall, which is what is being described in most of the Tripadvisor reviews titled Sewerby Grange). My grandma and her sister visited Sewerby Grange for a week every summer until Dorothy died which I believe was in the 1980s. Harold died in 1974. As far as I remember they had children but I don't recall the names.

I remember after Harold died we all visited cousin Dorothy, and my dad and I went for a bit of an exploration in the grounds and found a rather dusty Rolls-Royce in an outbuilding. Back at the house, my dad said to Dorothy, "The Rolls would come up very nicely if you had it cleaned and serviced," and she replied "What Rolls?"

I'm sorry Kaz, this info isn't likely to help you at all, but I thought I'd throw it in as you never know what might be useful to other people.

Harold R White married Dorothy W Burnley at Leeds 1940

They had 2 children Felicity A White 1943 & Elizabeth K White 1946 both in Leeds

Sunter. In the last quarter of 1914 Walter Burnley married Florence Hannah Elizabeth Sunter at Leeds

Thanks Uncle Mick. I suspected I had something wrong, and I was right!

Florence H E Sunter was my grandmother's eldest sister, therefore Dorothy Burnley (White) was my mum's cousin (not my grandma's) and my grandma and her sister were of course Dorothy's aunts. Not much was ever told to me about Florence because, I gather, she took her own life, and the family members were reluctant to speak about her. I used to ask my mum to clarify these things for me but sadly she passed away this summer; I do wish I'd written more of this stuff down.
